Death Anniversary of Com. PKS Prasad

The 28th Death Anniversary of Comrade P.K.S. Prasad, veteran trade union leader of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, was observed throughout the islands today the 29th January, 2011. The main function was held at Crusade House premises at Phoenix Bay, Port Blair where wreaths were laid on the Martyrs Memorial Column of Com PKS Prasad by the leaders of CITU and Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association and other organizations in the evening. This was followed by a remembrance meeting which was presided over by Shri S.B.Chatterjee. B. Chandrachoodan, Gen. Secretary, CITU, Shri S.C.Biswas, President, NGOs’ Association and D. Lakshman Rao addressed the meeting.

Speakers recalled the valiant struggles conducted by PKS Prasad for achieving various benefits which the Govt. Employees & Workers in the islands are now enjoying.

Delegation of SATB meets Director of Education

A delegation of the South Andaman Teachers' Branch of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers' Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands met Dr. R. Devdas, Director of Education on 11th January, 2011 and discussed with him various issues concerning the teachers working under the Education Department. The Association requested the Director of Education to take necessary steps for extending the Part B upgraded pay to all the left-out categories of teachers. The Association delegation requested the Director of Education to take up with the Administration and Govt. of India the issue relating to the payment of ISDA to teachers during summer vacation. The Association further requested the Director of Education to expedite the process of regularization of adhoc services of teachers from their initial appointments. It was brought to the notice of the Director of Education that a large number of Transfer TA bill of teachers are pending in various offices of the Education Department and schools due to the paucity of funds and demanded to take up with the Administration to allot sufficient funds for clearing these pending TTA bills. The delegation also demanded that confirmation of teachers should be done timely. The Director of Education assured the delegation that all the demands raised by the South Andaman Teachers' Branch of the Association will be considered favourably and those issues which are coming under his purview will be settled immediately. The delegation of the Association comprised among others Shri. T S Sreekumar, Asst. Gen. Secretary and Shri. H L Prasad, Vice President and Shri. Venkat Rama Rao, Secretary of the South Andaman Teachers' Branch of the Association.
