Death Anniversary of PKS Prasad



The 31st Death Anniversary of Comrade P.K.S. Prasad, veteran trade union leader of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, was observed at various parts of the islands today the 29th January, 2014 jointly by Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association and CITU.  The main function was held at Crusade House premises at Phoenix Bay, Port Blair where   wreaths were laid on the Martyrs Memorial Column of Com PKS Prasad by the leaders of trade unions, Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association and other organizations in the evening.  This was followed by a   remembrance meeting which was presided over by Shri S.C.Biswas, former President, NGOs’ Association. Shri K.G.Das, Secretary, CPI(M), A & N State Committee, B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU, A & N State Committee, Shri Sadanand Rai, President, Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, Shri D.P.Biswas, Former Secretary, South Andaman Teachers’ Branch addressed the meeting.  They recalled the historical agitations conducted by Com. PKS Prasad on various issues of government employees and workers. They called upon the govt. employees and workers in the islands to continue their agitations against various anti-labour policies of the central government. Com T.S.Sreekumar proposed the vote of thanks.

          At Diglipur, to pay tribute to Com PKS Prasad, the NGOs’ Association and CITU jointly arranged “Annadan” for the poor people at an orphanage.     
          At Rangat, a remembrance meeting was held in the CITU office at Nimbutala.

General Secretary visits Delhi to discuss issues of employees



Shri D.Ayyappan, General Secretary, Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association who is currently on a visit to Delhi, today (13.01.2014) met Shri Ratan P. Watan, Secretary (Expenditure) in the Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India and submitted memorandum on various issues relating to the Govt. employees working in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The issues brought before the Secretary (Expenditure) are:-
1.   Extending Part B upgraded pay to left out category of teachers.
2.   Upgraded pay for Lower Grade Clerks & Higher Grade Clerks working in Andaman Nicobar Islands under A & N Administration.
3.   Pay fixation Anomaly – Junior Senior issues.
4.   Approval for Creation of 193 posts of teachers in the Education department of Andaman Nicobar islands. etc.,

After discussion of the points in the letter, the Secretary (Expenditure) assured the General Secretary that the issues will be examined and needful action will be taken immediately.

Shri D.Ayyappan also met Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes, Ministry of Finance and submitted a memorandum demanding exemption of ISDA from income tax. The chairman assured him to look into the matter.
